Champawat, Uttarakhand | July 12, 2025
In one of the biggest drug seizures in Uttarakhand’s history, the state police arrested a 22-year-old woman and recovered 5.688 kg of MDMA (Ecstasy) valued at over ₹10.23 crore from the India–Nepal border near Banbasa in Champawat district.

The accused, identified as Isha, a resident of Pampapur village, was apprehended during a routine patrol by the SSB and local police around 5:45 AM. The contraband was found hidden in her backpack, consisting of 3.5 kg brown crystalline MDMA and 2.2 kg white granular MDMA.

During interrogation, Isha confessed that she had received the drugs on June 27 from her husband Rahul Kumar and his associate Kunal Kohli, with instructions to dispose of them in a nearby canal to avoid detection.

A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and efforts are underway to apprehend the other two accused.

Inspector General Riddhim Agarwal commended the police team for the successful operation and announced a ₹20,000 cash reward for their vigilance and swift action.

This major bust has raised concerns about cross-border drug trafficking networks and the increasing use of women as couriers. Further investigations are ongoing to trace the larger network involved.
